(hueco [wéko] < ocar or aocar 'to dig; to dig up; to hollow out' < Latin occare 'to rake the ground' plus tank)
   Holes in rock where rainwater accumulated and provided welcome moisture for travelers. Smith notes that these holes could be found along the overland trail near El Paso, Texas, and served as a well-known landmark to pioneers and convoys. See also estanque, tank.
